Stackwise: Leatherman Component Interchangeability Tool

Last updated: June 2026

Stackwise is a free, community-built web tool that helps you figure out which components from one Leatherman model will fit into another — before you pull your tool apart. Built and maintained by the modding community (thanks Umamiking!), it draws on years of real-world measurement data and testing to take the guesswork out of component swaps.

What It Does

Ever looked at a disassembled Leatherman and wondered what else could fit in that slot? Stackwise answers that question. Pick any supported model and you can see the full stack order for both handles — every component, in order, from pivot to handle end. Click anything in the stack and it instantly shows you what parts from other models are compatible, and whether you'd need spacers to make it work.

There's also a Compare Models view that shows all compatible pairs between two tools at once — great for planning a build before you order parts.

How It Determines Compatibility

Stackwise isn't just eyeballing thickness. Every suggested swap checks pivot diameter, locking geometry, and component thickness together — because a part that fits dimensionally still won't work if the locking mechanism is incompatible. Results are color-coded by compatibility level so you can see at a glance what's a drop-in, what needs spacers, and what won't work at all.

Current Data Set

Stackwise currently covers 10 Leatherman models: Wave+, Rebar, Arc, Free P4, Free P2, Bond, Surge, Wingman, Sidekick, and Super Tool 300. The tool is actively expanding — if your model isn't listed yet, it's likely on the roadmap.

Contribute

This tool gets better with more data. If you own a model not yet in the database and have a pair of calipers, measuring components across the pivot hole is all it takes. Submit contributions via the GitHub repository or send them our way and we'll pass them along.
